Dial In Day
2018 Report - Monday 7th May
The Dial In Day 2018 was another smash hit with 9 budding competitors taking to the track. The day began in the class room, running through the do’s and don’ts of bracket racing with some “money can’t buy” hints and tips thrown in. Then it was out on the track to put the newly learned skills into action and whilst it was Tom Dakin in the Mustang that topped the qualifying time, hitting his dial in to 100th of a second, Gary Lake in his Firebird took the victory in the first set of eliminations.
After a quick debrief in the classroom we hit the track again for some more qualifying and remarkably, again it was Tom Dakin that topped the qualifying tables. This time it was Christian Brohier that navigated his way through eliminations to take the win defeating Perry Stephenson in the final – this was Perry’s second final round defeat of the day after Gary beat him in the first session.
There was a quick classroom session again and then one last shot to really hone in the newly acquired racing skills. We finally had a different number 1 qualifier with Tom Haslam topping the charts with his Hyundai I30 but yet again Perry Stephenson found himself in the final round of eliminations. This time, we saw one of the most interesting races in Dial In Day history as Perry’s opponent, Ashley Symons, suffered some bizarre heat damage on his Skyline. Therefore, the decision was made not to run the car at it’s full potential and Ashley actually dialled in the identical time to Perry meaning the 2 were side by side all the way up the track. However, the race was decided on the start line as Perry pulled out a significant advantage in reaction times which led to them both breaking out. Perry broke out by the lesser margin which meant he was finally triumphant in his 3rd final of the day.
As a result of some standout performances through eliminations that also meant that Perry was the overall winner of the Dial in Day 2018. There were several notable performances with people perfectly hitting their dial ins and even a couple of perfect reaction times which is very special. Congratulations to all participants and we hope to see you all in the National Drag Racing ranks sometime soon.
